The SSKA Annual Kata & Kumite Competition 2022 is now on 29th January 2023 at Queen Anne’s School in Reading.
The event will run between 10.00 to 15.00 (approximately) with prizes and trophies for the winners, medals for all attendees and refreshments provided.
Entry fees will be £15pp and there will be no charge for spectators.
We do however need to know who will be attending so that we can plan ahead, confirm numbers, finalise catering. With that in mind please can you let us know ASAP if you and would like to attend and enter this very special event.
We are looking for sponsors for our trophies and medals so if you know of any local companies who would like to sponsor these please get in touch with me.
One of our colleagues on our karate journey with the SSKA, Julie Collins, a 4th kyu at the Caversham Club, run by Gary Leyshon, has also decided to undertake an additional journey. This time it is a little more scenic but fortunately not a never ending pursuit of perfection like Shotokan Karate.
Julie is trekking to Everest Base Camp (yes you did read that correctly) to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and in honour of her younger sister who sadly lost her battle with this dreadful disease.
It is worth noting that Julie has already completed 52 walking marathons over the years in her bid to raise funds. This is the first time she has created a “Just Giving” page to seek support for this eminently supportable cause.

As of 10th October 2022 members of the SSKA will need to pay for gradings and licence renewals by cash or cheque. We encourage all members to attend their local pre-grading and grading centres in order to do this.

From 1 September until 30 September (inclusive) we are reducing our Membership Fee to join the SSKA from £80 to £50.
Your membership will include a brand new Karate Suit embroidered with the SSKA badge and club badge plus your grading book and insurance for 1 year.
This offer is only available during September and won’t be extended. No other offers or special family rates can be used in conjunction with this offer.

On Friday 12th August in the afternoon we will be training on the beach. Please make sure you have a hat you can wear during training and sunglasses if you want to.
Please ensure you have sun tan lotion on during training.
You should bring a second suit to wear just in case the old suit gets wet.
Please bring a cold drink with you to keep your fluids up.
You can ask the hotel for cold drinks.
You can get changed on the beach or wear your suit down to the sea.
We will meet in reception and Sensei Cole will let you know what time on the day.

We will once again be staying and training at the Trouville Hotel in Bournemouth. Don’t forget to book your accommodation by calling 01202 552262 and please remember to state that you are a member of the SSKA.
Hotel rates are for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast, this special rate is only available when quoting the SSKA. Please ensure you have registered with the SSKA and paid your training fees before booking the Hotel.
Training Prices: 9 Lessons for £90.00*
* This is a flat rate, regardless of how many days or lessons you attend.
If you wish to grade at this camp you must have attended the previous camp, 4 black and brown belt courses or trained at the main swindon dojo for at least 8 lessons.
Permission to grade must be obtained in writing from your club instructor. Deadline for applications is Friday 15 July 2022.
Late applications may be accepted but will incur a £10 administration fee.
